REALTORS® Learn from Local Officials in Coastal Collaboration

Chesapeake, VA – February 11, 2025 – The Hampton Roads REALTORS® Association (HRRA) recently hosted the Charleston Trident Association of REALTORS® (CTAR) for a "Coastal Collaboration" event, a significant opportunity for members from both associations to exchange ideas and insights on key topics such as advocacy for housing, coastal resilience, and flood mitigation.

The event featured several distinguished guest speakers from the southside cities, who shared their expertise and perspectives on various important issues. Norfolk City Councilman Jeremy McGee led a discussion on the business of Norfolk, highlighting the city's historical significance, the Port of Virginia, the cruise hub, military presence, and the city’s universities. He also addressed neighborhoods, schools, growth, attainable housing, and how REALTORS® can play a vital role in these areas. Rosemary Wilson, Vice Mayor of Virginia Beach, later highlighted the crucial role of incorporating the REALTOR® perspective in housing discussions and the need to safeguard private property rights.

The afternoon session included a presentation by CTAR’s Advocacy Manager, Kara Alley, and V.P. of Advocacy, Josh Dix, on being the best advocate for clients, associations, and communities. The pinnacle of the event was a session on coastal resiliency, presented by Kyle Spencer, City of Norfolk Chief Resilience Officer, and Doug Beaver, Deputy City Manager.

HRRA's collaboration with local officials and the sharing of insights with other associations underscores the association's commitment to fostering effective advocacy and addressing critical issues that affect those who live, work, and play in Hampton Roads.
