HRRA members journey to Richmond each year to meet with policy makers during the state association's annual legislative conference.

Nearly 70 Hampton Roads REALTORS® Association (HRRA) members joined forces recently with real estate professionals from across the state for the 2017 REALTOR® Day on the Hill. The local contingency was among 600-plus Virginia REALTORS® members who came together February 8 at Capitol Square in support of the state association’s legislative package and to meet with legislators during the 2017 General Assembly session.
HRRA’s delegation took part in a legislative briefing led by VAR Legislative Counsel Chip Dicks; attended classes; met with Hampton Roads’ senators and delegates about issues affecting homeowners and buyers, landlords and real estate licensees; and had a briefing with Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam.
They also attended the Virginia REALTORS® luncheon featuring New York Times best-selling author and Emmy Award-winning Dr. Larry Sabato, founder and director of the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics. Rounding out the day, they networked with colleagues and policy makers during a legislative reception at The Jefferson Hotel. Many HRRA members also took part in other VAR Legislative Advocacy Conference events throughout the week, including committee and council planning sessions, course offerings, a broker roundtable and the REALTOR® Political Action Committee Awards Ceremony and Reception.
Virginia REALTORS®, formerly known as the Virginia Association of REALTORS®, is the largest professional trade association in Virginia. It introduced nine pieces of legislation on issues impacting the state’s over 32,000 REALTORS® and the rights of property owners.
Among those representing HRRA at REALTOR® Day on the Hill were HRRA Chairman of the Board Sherry Maser, Chairman-Elect Nikita Houchins, Immediate Past Chairman Becky Claggett and Government Affairs Chair Shewling Moy, as well as Virginia REALTORS® President-Elect Jay Mitchell, also a HRRA member.
